Brain Boosters

Similar to the way a treadmill provides a workout for the body, a brain fitness program exercises the mind.

Since all of Creative Engagement’s programs fall under the umbrella of Brain Fitness, Nancy Watson uses the label  ‘Brain Boosters’ to differentiate her Puzzles & Games component.

The brain is challenged more when one does a different type of puzzle every day which is why the Brain Boosters program includes a wide variety of puzzles, brain teasers, word play quizzes and games.

In addition to supplying puzzles and games, Nancy provides techniques on how to solve them, particularly for Sudoku, Rebus and Wordle. She also helps seniors make their own crossword puzzles for friends and family.

Fun Brain Boost Exercise #1:  Our brains do not work as hard when something is a habit. To stimulate your brain, do daily tasks with your less dominant hand.  For example, if you are right-handed, use your left hand to brush your hair or your teeth.   It’s sounds easy but it requires a lot of concentration.

Fun Brain Boost Exercise #2:  Many physical movements we make during the day are second nature. We do not give them any thought.  The next time you reach to open a door or pick up something:  stop, change hands and carry on. Or the next time you go to the store, take a different route. Or better yet, go to a different store and navigate your way through its maze of aisles.  Being deliberate about an action ‘wakes up your brain.”  It seems like a little gesture until you consider how many things you do each day on auto-pilot.
